Why Boko Haram really wants to surrender

Amir Muhammad Abdullahi, who is reportedly Boko Haram’s second in command said:

“We want to surrender because things are getting worse,” He said no side was winning the battle and that only a third of the girls remained as “the rest have been martyred”.

On the whole, fact is Boko Haram is ready to surrender because their fighting power has been drastically reduced by the Nigerian army. Their source of income as well as supply of ammunitions have been cut off.

Recently, 76 starving Boko Haram terrorists surrendered. The dreaded group only succeeded in increasing the poverty in Nigeria and making lots of people homeless.

Boko Haram has waged a seven-year insurgency to set up an Islamic state. They actually succeeded in creating a caliphate and made Maiduguri it’s headquarter.

Boko Haram’s success has largely been blamed on Goodluck Jonathan’s administration who refused to go after the group the way Buhari’s administration did.

Amina Ali Darsha Nkeki, who was the first girl to be rescued, was found by soldiers working with a vigilante group near Damboa, south of Maiduguri. She was flown to meet president Buhari in Abuja. Buhari stated that…

“Amina’s rescue gives us new hope and offers a unique opportunity to vital information.”

Amina was discovered with her four-month-old baby and it is being speculated that she is pregnant again. Meanwhile, a Boko Haram militant called Mohammed Hayatu, claimed to be Amina’s husband and he has been detained by the army.

An unconfirmed report by a spokesman for the Nigerian army states that a second girl, Serah Luka , who was among almost 300 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in a raid on their school in the northeastern Nigerian town of Chibok more than two years ago has been rescued.

In the past the Nigerian army has issued statements which turned out to be false, for instance the announcement that Boko Haram’s leader has reportedly been killed by the Nigerian army. Therefore, it is hard to believe that this second girl was actually rescued by the Military.

The question is – Why is it that she was the only one rescued when she is supposed to be with the other kidnapped girls? According to the army:

“We are glad to state that among those rescued is a girl believed to be one of the Chibok Government Secondary School girls that were abducted,”

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state, where Chibok is located, told reporters that the Nigerian military is already moving into the forest and that the rest of the girls would be rescued within the next few weeks. In his own words:

“We believe that in the coming weeks we shall recover the rest of the girls,”
